How It Works
Stereotactic radiosurgery is a highly precise form of radiation therapy that uses multiple converging beams to target tumors with great accuracy. This allows us to spare the healthy brain tissue surrounding the tumor.
The goal of SRS is to destroy the tumor while sparing healthy tissue. SRS is an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day. SRS can be used to treat melanoma brain metastases and brain tumors that have come back after surgery or radiation therapy.

What to Expect
Treatment Plan: The first step is to create a treatment plan. This involves imaging scans (CT or MRI) mapping the tumor and the surrounding healthy tissue. Once the tumor has been located, our team of radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, and medical physicists will work together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific situation.
SRS Treatment: The next step is to begin the SRS treatment, which usually takes place over one to five days. The patient lies on a table while a machine delivers the radiation to the tumor. The entire process is non-invasive and takes about an hour.
Releasing You Back to Life: After the treatment is complete, you will be able to go home and resume your normal activities. There is no need for a hospital stay or any special care after the procedure, and our team will follow up to make sure the tumor is shrinking and that there are no side effects.
Additional Treatments: In most cases, SRS is a one-time treatment. However, some people may need additional treatments if the tumor does not respond to the initial treatment or if it comes back. Our team will work with you to determine the best course of action.
